LEATHER SHOE CARE

Margaret Howell leather shoes are bench made by skilled shoemakers whilst MHL. leather shoes are tougher in character. Correctly caring for your shoes will ensure that the leather becomes soft more supple, making them more comfortable and longer lasting.

  • Wipe with a damp, non-abrasive cloth to remove any dust or residual dirt.
  • When polishing or treating scratches, after wiping the shoes and allowing them to fully dry, apply a good quality shoe cream with a dry, non-abrasive cloth.
  • Leaving the cream to dry before buffing will allow the leather to absorb the cream and enhance the softness and colour of the leather.
  • To create a high polish finish, repeat the above process.
  • When possible, after polishing shoes, leave overnight to further let the leather absorb the shoe cream.

CANVAS SHOE CARE

MHL. canvas shoes have a tougher character and, dependent on the wearer’s choice, need less care than a bench made Margaret Howell shoe.

  • For general care, use a good quality shoe brush to remove dust or excess dirt.
  • For more heavily soiled shoes, hand wash in lukewarm water, using a good quality shoe brush.
  • If stains persist, hand wash the shoes in lukewarm water using a neutral detergent or specialist shoe detergent, using a good quality shoe brush to agitate the stains.
  • Avoid leaving the shoes to soak.
  • Rinse the shoes in lukewarm water to remove excess detergent.
  • Reshape the shoes by using shoe trees or stuffing with paper and leave to dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not attempt to speed up the drying process by using a hairdryer or placing near a radiator as this can
    result in shrinkage and discolouration.
  • Never use a washing machine as this can damage and deform the shoes.
